Whitchurch Under Five’s

Whitchurch Under Five’s

Pre-school offers full day care, with flexibility in hours (i.e. early start and late finish 8.30 – 4.00.  We offer lunch sessions where the children bring in a packed lunch from home.  Our setting is Ofsted registered to have the maximum of 30 children at any one time on the premises. However, we prefer to provide a better adult and child ratio by caring for a maximum of 22 children at each session.   We have three members of staff working during any one session, comprising of a Manager and two teaching assistants, with an additional two members of staff during the Lunch session.

Our professional team of qualified Staff consists of two Managers, a Deputy, three Teaching Assistants and two Lunch Assistants.  All teaching Staff are fully CRB checked (Criminal Records Bureau) and regularly attend Continuing Professional Development training courses.  There is always at least one member of staff who holds a Full Paediatric “First Aid” qualification present during each session.  At Whitchurch Under Fives we use the “Early Years Foundation Stage” to observe, record/monitor and plan the children’s learning and next steps as recommended and audited by Ofsted.

Our Curriculum is planned around the following areas of development and is tailored to meet each child’s individual needs, providing a balance between child initiated and adult led experiences to promote learning that values and supports children’s confidence and independence.

  1. Communication, Language and Literacy

  2. Problem solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

  3. Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  4. Knowledge and Understanding of the World

  5. Creative Development – cooking, gardening, music and dance

  6. Physical Development

Each child is assigned a Key Worker, who will observe, listen, support and monitor the child’s progress and share their achievements with parents or carers throughout the year.  Through evaluating and monitoring your child’s achievements, it will allow us to tailor our planning, supporting and extend your child’s learning.  Parent interviews are offered, allowing us the chance to share your child’s “Learning Diary”.

We pride ourselves in:-

  1. Community partnerships – inviting professional people in to Pre-school i.e. Police, Nurse, Dentist, Paramedics, Fire Brigade

  2. Child’s individual Learning Diary

  3. Healthy eating – providing a healthy6 snack at refreshment time

  4. Offering cooking, gardening, music and dance

  5. Being active both indoors and outdoors, throughout the year, allowing the children to explore the wider community – visiting shops/park/local walks taking in the environment whilst making them aware of safety whilst out and about.

  6. A balanced curriculum that reflects all areas of learning

  7. Allowing a “free flow”/ “free choice” for play, inside and out
