A typical in school session


9am / 1pm - Welcome

We welcome the children as a group using our pre-school song and encourage signing using makaton.

9:10am / 1:10pm - Mathematics

Simple group mathematics using an assortment of visual resources.

9:20 / 1:20 - Small Group Time

In small groups the children join in adult led activities at the tables.

9:30am / 1:30pm - Free Play and Creative Art Session

Children are encouraged to move between rooms to experience both creative art and floor / table top resources.

Free Play - Free play is supervised by 2 teachers with a maximum of 12 children.  Free play includes construction, book area, computer table, table top play: maths / literacy / the world around us...... 

Creative Art - Our creative art activity sessions are adult led.  Covering topics we are learning about at the time.  There are also free choice table available which hosts a variety of activities including glue, scissors, paints, collage materials, play clay, sand trays etc..  These sessions are observed by 1 teacher and a maximum of 6 children.

10:10am / 2:10pm - Tidy Up Time

Encouragement is given to all to participate.

10:15am / 2:15pm - Literacy Time

Using fun games, music, books and actions we introduce the Jolly Phonics reading scheme.

10:20am / 2:20pm - Toilets / Hands

We gradually dismiss all the children out of the main playroom by means of a fun mathematical game.

10:30am / 2:30pm - Dining Room

Children are encouraged to sort out the appropriate number of beakers for the children they have on their tables.  Children prepare their snack i.e. make a sandwich, pour their drinks.

10:45am / 2:45pm - Role Play and Energetic Play

Children are given free choice to either the role play room or ball pond room.  Children are supervised and encouraged to move from one room to another.

11:10am / 3:10pm - Group Time in Main Playroom

We give the children the opportunity of turn taking / being part of a big group.  This may include miming / listening to others / news time / puppet theatre / music / dance / songs.....

11:25am / 3:25pm - Story Time

We choose a book from our vast selection.

11:30am / 3:30pm - End of Session

Children are taken out to parents individually whilst everyone joins in our 'Going Home Song'.

11:40am - Where applicable we dismiss lunchtime children to the dining room for packed lunches.

During warmer weather we also use the outdoor classroom and sensory garden on a daily basis.  We also have a soft surface play ground that is home to climbing apparatus.
