Main Play Room
The main
play activities are based in all areas of the
curriculum. We use tabletops and floor space.
We have a 'choosing' table which gives children the
options of picking which
activities they wish to play with.
We have a quieter area
where children can select from a large choice of books,
both fiction and factual. These books cover
'themed topics', 'cultural awareness' and 'make
believe'.
We have a computer
available for children to have fun gaining manipulative
skills as well as curriculum based tasks.
Creative Art Room
/ Area
The creative art room
invites children to make a choice by offering an adult
led activity alongside free choice, which includes play
clay, sand, collage and sand/water play.
Role Play Room
Our role play room offers
children a variety of role play opportunities.
Multi cultural and ICT resources enhance the themed
play: opticians, Chinese restaurant, office, shop
etc.
Ball Pond/Energetic Play
Room / Sensory Room
Our energetic play room
allows children to show their physical abilities!
Soft surface areas, slides, tunnels and walkways are a
firm favourite.
At times this room is
used for quieter activities. We have several
Special effects/sensory lights which, when activated
in a darkened room, give the children a much more
relaxed, quieter environment - ideal for story time or
listening to music.
Outdoor Classroom
The outdoor classroom can
be used whatever the weather! It has a soft
surfaced area with a clear covered roof.
Activities in this area change although we do have a
permanent role play kitchen available alongside other
activities like our mini gym!
Sensory Garden
The
sensory garden is at
the entrance to Whitchurch Under Fives. Children are
encouraged to feel and smell the plants. Listen to
garden sounds, sometimes taste the food they have grown.
This is also an ideal quiet area for story time.
Playground
At the rear of the
pre-school is our playground which, in the summer
months, has a shaded area. The soft surface area
houses climbing equipment and the patio area offers
space for the children to learn skills using wheeled
vehicles, balls etc.
