Outdoor Setting

To the front of the property, we have a planter and pots where flowers, vegetables and herbs are grown.  We encourage children to grow vegetables for snack time where we enjoy eating our tasty foods.  We also have lots of ‘bug hunts’ around the setting where children can explore the mini beasts and learn about life cycles.  We have artificial grass laid plus soft flooring areas, which has a den, and running areas to encourage physical development, communication and language, mathematical language/concepts and personal, social and emotional development, also rich learning for Understanding the World.  In our back garden we have a house/shop/restaurant/theatre role play area which has a kitchen, with garden chairs for quieter times.  We have a large sandpit which is often themed (construction site, ocean pollution, pirate area) and bark pit with mud kitchen and herbs to make potions! We have many one and two seat ride on vehicles to ride around on too!  We also have a climbing tower with slide and secret musical den.

We have an Undercover classroom which has thermal roofing, allowing warmth in the winter and shade in the summer.  This gives extra space to play and to house our cloakroom area.  Every child has an individual coat peg with their name to encourage recognition of the letters in their name and encourage independence to hang up their own coat and bag. To the side of our cloakroom, we have a packed lunch stand and drink box.  Resources relevant to our topical planning for that week/project/term are continually rotated to keep children interested and enthused and to further develop their knowledge and concepts.
